Latin Name: Bougainvillea glabra

Origin:  Brazil

Traditional herbal uses: Also called “Paper Flower”, this plant receives ample use in Mexico and Central America, mainly in cases of respiratory affections like cough, asthma, bronchitis and flu. In other cases, this shrub has been found useful in cases of epilepsy in children, stomach ache and acne.  A light brownish dye is obtained from the flower bracts.

Here was an essence that almost wasn’t – the climber I had previously identified a few months ago, was gone!  Fortunately, another plant, more shrub-like in appearance, was in another part of the garden.
