Traditional herbal uses:  Sea grape fruits have a distinctive astringent, tart flavor. Normally, they wouldn’t be eaten fresh. However, they make the most wonderful jams and jellies. These products are often sold in gift shops in the Caribbean.  In Yucatan, Mexico  the juice is employed as a tonic and is used to treat diarrhoea, dysentery, and digestive problems as well as venereal disease .  A  tea made from the leaves is used to treat hoarseness and asthma, and to bathe wounds.

  • Encourages self-nurture

I have been enthralled by sea grapes since childhood — although I’ve never eaten any (and they were unripe during our stay in Negril!).  At last I had the opportunity to find out why these gnarled, twisted  trees with their tart clusters of fruit have drawn my attention to them for so long.
