Wild Cane (Saccharum spontaneum L.)

Wild Cane (Saccharum spontaneum L.)

Wild Cane was brought from Asia to the Summit Tropical Gardens (named before Canal Zone Experiment Gardens) besides Panama Canal in the late 30’ies, as a part of an experiment to improve genetically sugar cane by the American Government. In these days it has grown at both sides of the Panama Canal and has been named a dangerous weed. Why? It is said that was used by the Canal Engineers to prevent erosion to both sides of the Canal. It is almost impossible to kill her because of the deep and extensive root system. Wild cane forms uninterrupted undergrowth, making difficult the growth of woody spices in the tropical rainforest.

Wild Cane

The canal of Panama interrupts the chacra system in the earth. According to some people the mountains that follow down to the andes (from USA) are the Earth‘s vertebral spine. So that is why I think the wild cane was brought to heal this break, in spite it is a dangerous weed.
The canal is run by river water and the ecosystem depends very much on the tropical rainforest preservation. On the other hand, wild cane tolerates very well drought.  In India, wild cane colonizes soil land and sand left bare by retreating flood, for it flowers just after towards the end of the rains. In Panama, Wild cane flowers in November, the month Panama celebrates independence. The flowers are not very beautiful but nature has carried its very light seeds all the way through the country to Costa Rica.

Wild Cane

Why then make a flower essence of such an aggressive and somehow selfish plant? Because it heals the first chakra.  It heals our connection to bare earth. First chakra has to deal with survival, and clinging to this earth.  A bit of selfishness can be observed by relatives of people taking wild cane, but it is a healthy one, having to do to take one’s life project in advance. People having cancer or aids have its first chakra very much damaged so wild cane can bring back this connection to earth. People with prosperity issues have difficulties in materializing the things necessary to live in this planet and to spread their ideas to this world.

Wild Cane

Wild cane tells us: go ahead you can survive and you can let your mental seeds spread in this world, and no matter what soil they find, they will grow. Wild cane will give the abilities to feel deeply rooted here and produce changes needed to stay here in security.  Wild cane is a grass. It bows with the wind, it brakes, it is soft, but at the same time it is less than indestructible.

Key words: survival, first chakra.
